Every year we dance with Mother Nature, and she leads
Vineyards
Farmers first. Winemaking starts in the vineyard. This approach drives us as we nurture our vines with exacting standards and dedication. We also source grapes from three other small, family-owned farms a few miles away, whose respect for the land mirrors our own.
Kanzler Estate Vineyard
Planted in 1996, the Kanzler Estate pioneered grape growing in the rolling hills southwest of Sebastopol. Located just eight miles from the Pacific, this area was once considered too cool and foggy for viticulture. Yet, this extreme coastal environment proved to be a world-class site for Pinot Noir. Rooted in well-drained Goldridge soils, the vines benefit from sunny summers tempered by marine breezes and thick nightly fog. This extended ripening period yields fruit of extraordinary concentration and complexity. These qualities have earned the Estate unprecedented critical acclaim, including a historic 98-point benchmark from Wine Spectator.

Eric Neil, Vineyard Manager
Eric Neil (shown with Alex) has managed our estate vineyard with us since we planted in 1996. Eric recognized and explored the grapegrowing potential of the coastal region back when the general opinion was that it was too cold here. He’s not just a quiet pioneer, and a great collaborator on the nuances of farming—he’s also a great character to know. Alex says, “He’s answered the phone the same way for decades: ‘Hellllooo, this is Eric.’ He’s a rugged guy who rocks a Canadian tuxedo with jeans tucked into boots… and owns a 4-pound Yorkshire terrier.” His go-to replies when we make a request? “Not a problem” and “We’ll give it hell.”
Our Wines
From vineyard to glass, our wines carry the story of Kanzler, shaped by place, patience, and the hands behind each vintage.
